The library's collections
Harvard Library-the world's largest academic Libraries — including 20.4 million books, serial titles 180,000, about 400 million manuscript items, 10 million photographs, 124 million web page archive, and 5.4 terabytes born-digital archives and manuscripts. Access to this rich collection is provided by almost 800 Library staff members who operate more than 70 separate Library unit.

Naming
The name comes from the Harvard College's first benefactor, John Harvard's young Minister of Charlestown. After his death in 1638, he left half his estate to the library and the institution was founded in 1636 by vote of the great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
